Welcome to my Private Practice in Outpatient Psychiatry

The focus of my practice is on treating adults through the use of various psychotherapies, various psychopharmacologies, or various combinations of both, as indicated by your circumstances. Psychiatry is as much an art as a science, however I prefer to use “empirically-validated” treatments whenever and wherever possible. (“Empirically-validated” is when a medication or a therapy has been tested in scientific trials against a placebo treatment.) In addition to offering medication treatment options, I also offer psychotherapy in the integrative model, combining targeted techniques from Behavioral therapy, CBT, Existential, Jungian, DBT, Mastersonian, Interpersonal, Attachment-based, and Psychodynamic schools.

At an initial visit, my goal will be to provide you with a thorough and complete mental health evaluation, to offer you an initial diagnosis and prognosis, and to offer you my best treatment recommendations and options. My immediate aim will be to restore you to your highest level of functioning as rapidly as possible.

I typically meet with patients on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11AM-5PM in a ground floor office, windowed to a courtyard garden, centrally located in the California Avenue business district in Palo Alto, California, adjacent to Stanford University. The location is easily accessible via bike, bus, car, and Caltrain. The office is comfortably decorated with seating surrounding a large fish tank, home to three goldfish “Sigmund”, “Carl” and "Victor" and to one plecostomus "Gus".

I have a B.A. degree, Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University, an M.S. degree from the California Institute of Technology and an M.D. degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. I continued on to complete both my Internship and my Psychiatric Residency at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics.

I am licensed to practice medicine by the California State Medical Board and I am board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

I have been in private practice locally since 2004. I will be retiring from clinical work on December 1st, 2019 and I regret that I thus presently am unable to accept new or returning patients into my practice.

I am a contributing author and editorial contributor to the national Carlat Journals - The Carlat Report Psychiatry, Carlat Addiction Treatment Report and The Carlat Child Psychiatry Report.
